A spinal tumor is an abnormal mass of tissue that develops in or around the spinal cord or the bones of the spine. These tumors are primarily categorized into three types: vertebral tumors, which occur in the bone; intradural-extramedullary tumors, found within the membrane covering the spinal cord; and intramedullary tumors, located inside the spinal cord tissue. These growths can be either non-cancerous (benign) or cancerous (malignant), and they may originate in the spine as primary tumors or spread from cancer occurring elsewhere in the body, known as metastatic tumors.
