Craniovertebral junction disorders (CVJ disorders) refer to structural abnormalities or instabilities occurring at the craniovertebral junction, where the skull meets the upper cervical spine, specifically the C1 and C2 vertebrae. These cervical spine anomalies can lead to compression of the lower brainstem, upper spinal cord, and surrounding nerves, resulting in symptoms such as neck pain, headaches, limb weakness, balance issues, and coordination difficulties.
